Makeup Artist – Lips, cheek and eyes made pretty by me.

Nothing is sweeter than the moment when a client opens their eyes after a session and gleefully gasps, “I love it!”.
If I can get them to mutter an “oh my god”, then it’s just icing.

But I want the icing.

Texas heat is officially here. And so start the the summers of 2-3 times a day showers and even then, jump out profusely sweating. There may be a little hope…MAC has created a powder that is a alchemical fusion that charms water droplets into a loose powder while remaining over 50 percent H2O. In turn, this eliminates shine, oil and heat which leaves your face feeling and looking cooler.

The magic isn’t just in the blend of H20 but also its light-diffusing pigments which render skin’s surface into line-softened, natural luminosity.

Can you stand any more magic? The product is set to launch May 5th as part of the permanent line! Holla.

Color Options:

Truth & Light Sheer - shimmer that reflects silver and pink

Honey Rose Sheer - rosy beige with multidimensional shimmer

Cajun Sheer - bronze shimmer that reflects gold

Boyfriend does makeup for his girl. Sometimes, you just gotta let him express himself.

NARS Summer 2011 collection, released this Friday 4.15.11 on narscosmetics.com.

April Fools! And for the other 364 days, just do the opposite of this girl and you’ll be fine.

Normally, I am not a fan of pastels. They should only be reserved for Easter, baby showers and timidness. HOWEVER, when taken to the extreme and used correctly (as in diving head first) they can look amazing. Here is Mac’s Quite Cute line demonstrating this Harajuku-unicorn-bubblegum fact.

Available April 7 through May 2011.

For years and even now, this is the product I will not, cannot, refuse to leave home without. If you’re paying more than $7 for liquid liner, then I’m here to tell you you’re getting screwed. This pen delivers a dark, smooth and consistent line every time. It lasts beyond an 8-hour workday and the felt tip makes it extremely easy to apply and maneuver.

This liner rocks so hard…so much in fact that it’s my security blanket…I will slap on a fresh line over my eyes and all is right with the world again. I can mark a perfect line in the dark, for heaven’s sake. I feel like I look sleepy eyed, tired and worn without it. Nonsensical, I know.

Today, in my half asleep state I left the house without it. Yes, true story. I shadowed up, bronzed, blushed and even curled the lashes. How I forgot, I don’t know. But I didn’t even notice until 9am when I peeked at myself in the work bathroom. There I was, my tired, droopy and sleepy face.

Later, I’m sitting at my desk when my friend Matt Crump walks over to ask a question about some TV spots. As a side bar, he says, “your makeup looks good today”. I look at him blankly, tilt my head and reply, “I was tired and forgot my eyeliner”.

What a retarded answer, right? Someone compliments me and my answer alludes to me looking and feeling like sh*t.

Well. That changes today.

Over the course of the next month, I’ll be purposely putting down my liquid weapon of choice and experimenting (on and off) sans L’Oreal. This will give me added flexibility in creating my own looks with color, contour and contrast.

Here we go…

Color pictured above is pomegranate. Five other shades are available.

So that means get yourself to the makeup counter and start color testing your Spring and Summer shades! Personally, even though the hotter season brings humidity, I still prefer to wear foundation/liquid to even out my skin—- I just use less of it.

Asking yourself “stay with what’s working or venture to the latest and greatest?” Why not both! That’s what test samples are for. The last thing you need to drop paper for a full bottle and discover your skin hates it. Red bumpy rash spots ain’t cute.

I recently went and discovered that not only did I have more color in my cheeks but one of them being a rose. Yep, you heard me. I’m officially 99% olive and 1% rosey.

Another great tip for summer oil control is Peter Thomas Roth’s Uber-Dry Sunscreen SPF 30. Uber-dry….not to be confused with over-dry. This stuff does seep into the skin right on contact yet leaves your face feeling soft and prepped!

I also tested out NARS Illuminator in Laguna and was highly disappointed in this product. First off, the product is intended to blend upon contact. Literally. If not, then you get dark fake-bake blotches which are less than attractive. Another option, is to take a blush brush and while simultaneously rubbing off the first layer of your skin, blend it onto the countour areas of your cheek. Your choice.

Orgasm Illuminator was success partly due to the pink/gold hue and the blend-ability of the color. Orgasm is Cinderella and Laguna, it’s stepsister. You get my point.

Copacabana was incredibly frosty on the skin and felt like it would live better during the winter. The only way I could see this translating in this season if it was used only as a highlighter. Otherwise, you’ll look like an ice queen.

I didn’t get a chance to try Super Orgasm but feel like it has great potential if it’s anything like it’s powder blush sister. Only great things are associated with Super Orgasm. Unicorns, chocolate, non-chipping nail polish…all those things.
